Seoul Art Week 2026 has started—but it is not one fair, one building, or one ticket.
From August 31 through September 6, the citywide program connects 141 art spaces and 159 exhibitions and programs across Seoul. Frieze Seoul and Kiaf Seoul are part of the week, but the schedule reaches far beyond COEX into museums, galleries, alternative spaces, studios, and neighborhood events.
For an international visitor, that scale is the exciting part. It is also the part that requires a little planning.
First: Seoul Art Week Is Bigger Than the Two Fairs
Frieze Seoul and Kiaf Seoul bring international attention to COEX in Gangnam. Seoul Art Week takes that concentration of visitors and connects it to art spaces across the city.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government describes the 2026 edition as a citywide art festival linking public and private museums, galleries, alternative spaces, and newer experimental venues. Participation has grown from 107 spaces in 2025 to 141 this year.
So if you only go to COEX, you will see two major fairs—but not the full shape of the week.

Frieze Seoul and Kiaf Seoul overlap, but they do not finish on the same day. Frieze ends Saturday, September 5. Kiaf continues through Sunday, September 6.
That extra day matters if you are building a short Seoul itinerary.
Going to COEX? Check Your Access Before You Leave
Both fairs take place at COEX, but in different halls and on different levels.
- Frieze Seoul: Halls C and D, Level 3
- Kiaf Seoul: Halls A and B, Level 1, plus the Grand Ballroom
Frieze's official visitor information says its September 2 preview is invitation-only. On September 3, invitation and preview ticket holders enter from 11 AM, while public entry begins at 3 PM. Public hours continue on September 4 and 5 from 11 AM to 7 PM, with last admission at 6:30 PM.
Kiaf's official schedule also separates VIP, preview, and general-admission access. General public options begin at 3 PM on September 3, continue on September 4 and 5, and include a Kiaf-only general ticket on September 6.
What Already Happened on Opening Night
Seoul Art Week opened on August 31 with its first Euljiro “Opening Night.” Twenty visual-art spaces participated from 7 PM to 10 PM with exhibitions, performances, and artist talks.
The city also operated a neighborhood shuttle that day and distributed a special Euljiro map through nearby hotels and art spaces.
Those opening-night services were tied to August 31. Visitors arriving later in the week should not assume the same shuttle or late-night schedule is still operating.
How to Plan the Citywide Part Without Exhausting Yourself
Here is the practical version:
- Choose one neighborhood at a time. Do not plan COEX, Euljiro, and Samcheong as if they were adjacent.
- Check each venue's own hours. “Seoul Art Week” does not mean all 141 spaces share one opening schedule.
- Separate fair tickets from city venues. Frieze and Kiaf require the correct fair access. Museums, galleries, tours, and programs may have their own prices or registration rules.
- Use the official venue information before setting out. The city says the Seoul Art Week website includes participating-space information and a location-based Smart Seoul Map.
- Treat limited tours as reservations, not walk-ins. The city's residency tours have fixed capacities, and interpretation is prepared for selected international participants.
A Simple Two-Day Strategy
If your time is limited, split the experience instead of trying to collect venues.
Day one: COEX. Choose Frieze, Kiaf, or both, depending on your ticket and energy. Confirm your permitted entry time before arrival.
Day two: one Seoul art neighborhood. Pick a district from the official program and build a compact route around spaces that are actually open that day.
This gives you both sides of the week: the international fair concentration at COEX and the galleries, institutions, and experimental spaces that make Seoul's art scene a citywide ecosystem.
